STAAD(X) is not going to be released as a product by itself as was originally planned. Instead, Bentley will continue to actively develop the STAAD(X) technology to strengthen and extend STAAD.Pro’s capabilities. The following enhancements were added to ISM Revit Plugin CONNECT Edition V11.

CONNECT Licensing

Note that ISM Revit Plugin remains a FREE product, certain CONNECT Licensing workflows that applies to paid products are not relevant nor available to ISM Revit Plugin.

Revit Analytical Model as basis of ISM export.

For Create ISM Repository and Update ISM Repository actions, the option to use Revit Analytical Model as basis for export have been included.

In prior versions (and with the Analytical Model option unchecked) the exported location members are based on the physical model only, with this option selected - Revit’s internal Analytical model locations will be used as basis for export to other ISM enabled applications. Revit internally maintains an analytical model in addition to the physical model – using the Analytical Model option, the onus is on the user to ensure proper connectivity of the building model is in place prior to export.

Revit have some structural integrity/consistency checks that should be executed prior to exporting to ISM. Ensure both Member Supports and Analytical/Physical Model Consistency options are checked under Analyze > Analytical Model Settings

Note that REVIT’s Analytical Model will not be modified for ISM inbound operations (New from ISM Repository and Update from ISM Repository).

About ISM Revit Plugin

RAM Structural System, RAM Concept, and STAAD.Pro are examples of applications that are ISM-enabled and can interoperate with Revit with the help of the ISM Revit Plugin.

The ISM Revit Plugin adds commands to Revit that allow ISM repositories to be created and updated from Revit, and allow Revit to create and update ISM repositories. The ISM Revit Plugin is dependent on ISM and thus Structural Synchronizer must be installed on the computer.

The features within Microstran available to a given user depend on which tier of Microstran is activated on the respective user’s computer, as well as which design code options are activated.

There are three different tiers of Microstran, each containing more features than the last. These tiers are:

In addition to the basic modeling, analysis, design, and interoperability options available in all tiers of the product, Microstran.Pro and Microstran.Advanced contain advanced analysis and element options.

Microstran.Pro

Microstran.Pro contains the following features that are not available in Microstran:

• Dynamic analysis (calculation of periods and modes)

• Export to Steel Detailing Neutral Format
• Reinforced concrete design to AS3600-94

Microstran.Pro

Microstran.Advanced contains the following features that are not available in Microstran:

• Nonlinear gap and fuse elements

Note that in previous versions of Microstran, there were many separate design code options that consumed separate licenses. We are please to announce that for Microstran CONNECT Edition. The below design codes and features are Now Free to use and Freely available across all tiers of Microstran:

• Integrated Connection Design
• AISC ASD 9^th
• AS 1250/AS3990
• SSCJ/AIJ
• BS 5950:2000
• BS8110:85 

The steel design codes remain as "check-out only" design codes and are not Free.:

• AS4100
• NZS 3404
• AS/ANZ 4600:05

It is advisable to have the License information option "Show on Startup" checked, as this provides the user with assurance of the products and codes that would be in use for the current session. Licensing information and configuration can be manually launched from Microstran > File

If the current user is not logged in to CONNECTION Client and where the above "Show on Startup" option is unchecked, the current user would then be greeted with below dialog (sign in required) dialog from CONNECTION Client.

User must log in prior to proceeding.

Attempts to check-out more licenses than owned will be prevented by the License Management Tool.

Licenses are freed by issuing the Check-In all command.

Enabling the option “Check in All on Closing Microstran”, will ensure the above mentioned Checked Out only licenses are checked back in upon closing Microstran.

General Q

Can grid lines be imported from Auto-cad?

Grids cannot be imported from Auto-cad. For Staad files RCDC auto identifies the grids as per centre of columns and for E-tabs it reads if they are available. User can view or edit the grids label and location. For more information refer topic “Grid Lines” from help Content.

Can all design calculation reports be  exported in Excel format?

Design reports are generated in platform independent html format so as to facilitate the user to open it in any software. User can open the HTML File in excel and word.

General Questions

• How to freeze drawing style settings in all newly opened RCDC file?
  • Before starting project, settings for drawings style can be modify/update for all element. Please refer help for more details.

• The load combinations considered for regular/irregular building in sizing are with factor 1 for all load cases. Can this factor be an input?
  • Factor can’t be an input, as for sizing of footing/Pile-cap different factors are to be considered for dead, live and other load cases. However, user can create his own load combination templates by using ‘Add Load Combination’ option and creating a new template. User also can add or remove load combinations as per requirements. For more information refer Topic “Load and Load combinations” from help Content.

• While trying to design RCC beam using ACI 318, exporting the data from ETABS in FPS (foot-pound-second) system, but the data that is being reflected in RCDC is in MKS (meter-kilogram-second) system
  • RCDC refers to ACI-318M-2011 (metric units) code. If data is exported in feet and inches RCDC internally changes the forces in to kN and m. Working environment in RCDC is in MKS units. User can provide the input data in kN and M unit for RCDC. The output can be generated in inches unit. Refer ‘Style Manager’ in RCDC for the same.
