How can I create a custom connection in the RAM Connection interface within STAAD.Pro and apply that to my model ?
The steps to define a custom connection using the RAM Connection interface in STAAD.Pro CONNECT Edition are listed next
STEP 1 :
After completing analysis in a model, go to Connection Design > Connection Database and create a New Group
STEP 2 :
Create a New Table. Input a Table Name and all the input parameters associated with the connection type you are trying to define
STEP 3 :
Once the New Table name shows up under the Tables box, click on New Item
STEP 4 :
The Connection Pad will then open up.
Define a name for the custom connection (BCW-1 in this case )
Make sure to check the Optimizable check box so that you can use this connection as a Smart Connection
Input the details related to the Members and the parts of the connection ( Angles in this case )
Click on Save
STEP 5 :
The newly defined connection template (BCW-1) will now show up under Items box
Click on the >> to add the defined connection to the right connection group.
Note that based on the data input in STEP 2 when defining the table, the software selects the right group of connections to which the new connection can be added to
The new Connection BCW-1 now gets added to the list of similar connections as shown next
This completes defining a custom connection template and you are now ready to apply the connection to your model.
STEP 6 :
Select the members to connect using the new connection type
Click on Smart Connection icon
Choose the appropriate design code
Choose the proper Connection template ( Clip Angle BCW - for this example which represents a Beam-Column Web connection using Clip Angles ).
Select the custom connection template from within the Available list of templates and click on the > to Select it as show below and click OK
The custom connection would then get applied to the model as shown next
The name of the Template (BCW-1) within the RAM Connection Input table, confirms that the custom connection has been applied.
