How can I create a custom connection in the RAM Connection interface within STAAD.Pro and apply that to my model ?

The steps to define a custom connection using the RAM Connection interface in STAAD.Pro CONNECT Edition are listed next

STEP 1 :

After completing analysis in a model, go to Connection Design > Connection Database and create a New Group

STEP 2 :

Create a New Table. Input a Table Name and all the input parameters associated with the connection type you are trying to define

STEP 3 :

Once the New Table name shows up under the Tables box, click on New Item

STEP 4 :

The Connection Pad will then open up.

Define a name for the custom connection (BCW-1 in this case )

Make sure to check the Optimizable check box so that you can use this connection as a Smart Connection

Input the details related to the Members and the parts of the connection ( Angles in this case )

Click on Save

STEP 5 :

The newly defined connection template (BCW-1) will now show up under Items box

Click on the >> to add the defined connection to the right connection group.

Note that based on the data input in STEP 2 when defining the table, the software selects the right group of connections to which the new connection can be added to

The new Connection BCW-1 now gets added to the list of similar connections as shown next

This completes defining a custom connection template and you are now ready to apply the connection to your model.

STEP 6 :

Select the members to connect using the new connection type

Click on Smart Connection icon

Choose the appropriate design code

Choose the proper Connection template ( Clip Angle BCW - for this example which represents a Beam-Column Web connection using Clip Angles ).

Select the custom connection template from within the Available list of templates and click on the > to Select it as show below and click OK

The custom connection would then get applied to the model as shown next

The name of the Template (BCW-1) within the RAM Connection Input table, confirms that the custom connection has been applied.
