Problem
The error message "There has been an error designing one or more section cuts. Internal error designing cut(s)" is displayed during the design of one or more wall design groups in RAM Concrete Shear Wall.
Solution
Typically, this error is associated with a conflict with section cuts in the RAM Frame Shear Wall Forces Module and section cuts in RAM Concrete Shear Wall. When this is the cause of the problem, the error can be bypassed by doing the following:
- Enter the Shear Wall Forces Module in RAM Frame and delete all section cuts.
- Enter RAM Concrete Shear Wall and delete all section cuts.
- Regenerate the section cuts in RAM Concrete Shear Wall.
- Run the RAM Concrete Shear Wall design.
In other cases, the error is associated with small alignment issues between adjacent wall panels in a given Wall Design Group. When this is the cause of the problem, the error can often be bypasses by moving each wall end a small amount and then moving the wall end back to its original position. The Integrity - Align - Walls tool in RAM Modeler is a convenient tool to accomplish this task. After re-running the RAM Frame Analysis and returning to RAM Concrete Shear Wall, delete and then regenerate the section cuts.
Finally, the error may be associated with very short wall segments (6" or less) as shown below:
When this is the cause, delete the small wall segments and then delete and remodel the section cuts when returning to RAM Concrete Shear Wall.
A macro-enabled Excel spreadsheet tool to delete section cuts has been made available for cases where the Concrete Shear Wall module cannot even be opened without a crash.
