Problem Description :
Software crashes observed in STAAD.Pro CONNECT Edition 22.02.00.26
We have had reports of software crashes in the STAAD.Pro CONNECT Edition version 22.02.00.26. The crashes are mostly random in nature and the STAAD.Pro development team is going through all the crash reports and trying to address these on a top priority basis. Although these crashes are not reproducible in most cases, we have observed that certain actions like closing out of the editor, resizing a view, dragging a view window, carryout out a steel design as per AISC 360-16 etc. have caused comparatively more crashes than others. In most cases (if not all) that we have observed so far, there is no data loss associated with these crashes. Also if there is a crash or an abnormal shutdown of the software, there would now be a file named “Modelname_AutoRecovery.zip” within the same folder where your STAAD.Pro model is, that would have all the updates made to the model up to the crash. You may use this model to retrieve any data. When you open the model after the crash, you will get the following message box.
Choosing Yes will recover any data and prevent any data loss.
Although we do not have a solution or a workaround for all of these crashes at this point but here are some general recommendations that may help
If the software is crashing frequently, deleting the default user settings may help. More on this is available at the wiki below
If you are using code check as per AISC 360-16 and the model is crashing during the design phase, you may consider breaking up the CHECK CODE command into multiple sets of CHCEK CODE commands.
If you are working with the file on a network drive, consider copying it on to your local machine and working on it.
If you run into a crash, please do send the crash report using the crash dialog box that comes up. Each report is being looked into by our development team. We would highly recommend that you continue to use the latest STAAD.Pro version 22.02.00.26 because the benefits of using the version by far outweighs the disadvantages.
Last but not the least, we do apologize for the inconvenience caused by these crashes and would like to reassure you that these are being investigated with top priority and we will get these addressed at the earliest.
