Problem Description
When calculating shear capacity of coupling beams, the program uses an effective depth of 0.8 x the beam height. The effective depth should be calculated using a strain compatibility analysis and represent the distance from the extreme tension fiber to the centroid of the tension reinforcement.
Reason
The use of 0.8xbeam depth follows from ACI 318-11 11.9.4. This is appropriate for walls but may not be appropriate for coupling beams.
Solution
In a future release, the effective depth will be calculated as the distance to the centroid of the tension reinforcement.
