Background
Importing an ISM repository requires some mapping of the column and framing shapes before the model finishes importing. When you use the ISM “New From Repository” command and clicked the Update button in Structural Synchronizer, the repository starts to import into Revit. A series of mapping dialogs open to set the mapping of first the material, then the shapes and finally surface members. We are going to take a look at the shapes mapping.
Section Mapping Importing into Revit TN
When the Column/Framing Import Mappings dialog opens the red X’s next to each of the shape types indicates they are not mapped.
Click the Match All button and the Match Sections Mappings dialog opens.
Click the Add All button and then OK.
Now in the Column/Framing dialog all of the red X’s have turned to either green checks or blue triangles. The green check means the element has been matched to a shape already contained in the Revit model. The blue triangle means that the element has been matched to an external family file and that shape has to be imported before it can be used in the model.
Click Next and the shapes begin to import. Once the shapes have been imported the Mapping Type changes from External family type to Project family type.
Notice the parametric sections listed in the top of the table. If the parametric mapping has not been setup for a particular shape type the section would have a red X next to it. Those would need to be
mapped using the New Type command or added to the parametric mapping so that they map automatically. Parametric mapping will be covered in another article. Parametric Shape Mapping
