Current Revision posted to RAM | STAAD Wiki by Seth Guthrie on 6/14/2018 3:40:53 PM
 Applies To
 Product:Ram Concept
First Affected Version:6.04.00.06
 Found in Version:6.04.00.06
Released in Version:-
Environment:Windows 7 x64; (Windows 10?)
 Area: File; Installation
 Issue #:905815

Problem Description

With Ram Concept version 06.04.00.006 x64 installed on certain machines typically running Windows 7 x64, the program simply won't start. Clicking the desktop shortcut or Concept.exe causes the wait cursor to appear for a moment and then nothing happens. No error is presented.

This can happen even when the license is activated and when the prior version worked fine.

Reason

The problem is with a graphics driver incompatibility with a 3rd party component used by Ram Concept called QT5.

Solution

Download the file OpenGLenv.zip and follow these instructions:

communities.bentley.com/.../openGLenv.zip

  • Unpack the zip file to a temporary folder.
  • installPath.bat sets the default Concept installation path.  If Concept is installed in a different folder, change the path to the folder containing Concept.exe.
  • Run each batch file in the following order, until you find one where Concept runs:
    • desktop.bat
    • angle.bat
    • software.bat
    • filepath.bat
  • Use the System Properties >> Environment Variables tool to define the QT_OPENGL environment variable and set its value to the value from the batch file that worked.
  • If only filepath.bat worked, also set the QT_OPENGL_DLL variable to the full path of opengl32sw.dll in the Concept installation folder.
  • Once the environment variables are set via System Properties, Concept should work by double-clicking the Concept icon or Concept data files.  The batch files can then be discarded.
