Problem Description
You get a Revit External Tool Failure error when trying to import or export an ISM repository from Revit
Steps to Resolve
If you are having a problem with ISM on your machine I would recommend doing a clean install of both the ISM Revit Plugin and Structural Synchronizer.
- Go to Control Panel and uninstall Structural Synchronizer and ISM Revit Plugin.
- While you have Control Panel open check and see if Microsoft .NET framework 4.7 is installed. (It is located in "Turn Windows Features On or Off".) If it is not, you can download it from here:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=55170 - Next go to each of the directories shown below and if they still exist delete them.
C:\Program Files\Bentley\Engineering\StructuralSynchronizer CE
C:\Program Files\Bentley\Engineering\ISM Revit Plugin CE
C:\Users\your.name\AppData\Local\Bentley\IsmEngine - Reinstall Structural Synchronizer and the ISM Revit Plugin.
- Restart your machine.
If the error persists it is recommended that you do a clean install of Revit. Here is a link to the clean install instructions on the Autodesk website.
