Zero Length Error in Revit

 Product(s):ISM Revit Plugin
 Version(s):N/A
 Area: Import/Export
 Subarea: Zero Length Error

Sometimes when importing an ISM repository into Revit you can get an error seen below.

"Analytical model edge cannot have a length of zero (0)"

This happens after the repository is finished importing and while Revit is regenerating the model.

It is caused by the one of the floors importing into Revit. When the model is regenerating it causes a beam or some other structural object to become shorter than zero length causing the error.

There is a workaround for this. Reject all of the surface member floors and openings when importing the repository. Also reject any table steel deck or composite deck listed. You will then be able to import the structural elements.

You can then create a new Revit model import the repository and reject everything but the floors. You can link the floor model to the framing model. Merge the floor model and then delete the groups created by linking the floor model.

If you use this workaround do not try and bring any floor surface members on an update to the Revit model.

Note, this issue appears to no longer exist in Revit Structure 2016.
