Overview

In past versions of RAM Concept, a limitation existed in the interoperability with Revit that may have prevented some columns and walls from being transferred into the *.cpt model. RAM Concept 6.2 contains an enhancement that overcomes this limitation.

Products

  • RAM Concept 6.2 (release coming soon)
  • Structural Synchronizer CONNECT Edition
  • ISM-Revit Plugin

Note that version 6.2 of RAM Concept is more formally known as CONNECT Edition Update 2. For brevity, the former is used in this wiki.

Background

RAM Concept can interoperate bi-directionally with Revit Structure. Floors in a Revit Structure model can be transferred into RAM Concept using both products' ISM interoperability. Further, if desired, revisions can be made to the structural geometry in RAM Concept, and the Revit model updated with these changes. This can include, among other things, changes to the slab outline, openings, slab thickness revisions, the addition or removal of beams and drops caps, and changes to the applied loads.

RAM Concept 6.2 includes a fix for a limitation that was encountered when transferring a floor from a Revit model into RAM Concept. The specific condition involves columns or walls spanning multiple stories in the Revit model, as shown in Figure 1. That is, one or more stories intersect a column or wall along its span.

If transferring the second or third level into RAM Concept, the column selected in Figure 1 would not be transferred since the column spans vertically across the second and third levels. The column would only be transferred into RAM Concept if the roof was imported.

The Solution

RAM Concept 6.2 now has a setting that enables the import of multi-story columns and walls when reading in an ISM repository. When executing the command File > Sync ISM > New from Repository, the dialog shown in Figure 2 appears. A new setting ‘Recompute nodes for support members’ is available. Turning this setting on will ensure that columns and walls free-spanning across the floor being imported are also transferred into RAM Concept.
